I am having really awful reliability issues with my connection today. That means I may or may not be about on here.
In the most amazing of amazing things, I had emailed my local assemblyman:
I am writing to you today to urge you to support the legislation
introduced by Assemblymen Mike Doherty and Rick Merkt that would
preclude the government from dictating that children enrolled in schools receive
vaccinations against the objections of their parents.
The bill does provide for the safety and well-being of the general
population by empowering the State Commissioner of Education to restrict
the attendance of children to schools if an outbreak or threatened
outbreak of a disease for which they were not vaccinated occurs.
I beg of you to put the power over our children's health back into the
hand of their parents, without risking their right to a public
I received prompt emails back from both of my assemblymen, one stating that he was filling out the required info to become a primary sponsor, and the other to become a sponsor. Ever the skeptic I went ahead and checked the legislature's web page for the bill A4070 and sure enough I was told the truth! It may not get passed, heck, it likely won't, but it was nice to have my voice heard, responded to, and have the word of a politician followed through on. I am very, very, impressed. And I'm not even a Republican (and both of these assemblymen are).
